Grasping the World Series of Poker Payout Structure

By Brian Garvin

Poker payouts can be very confusing whether its the amount of spots paid, or the percent paid to the players. Learning how poker payouts came about, you have to know where it all started. If you go to Las Vegas you certainly will come across a casino called Binions Horseshoe. Binions is the venue at which the World Series of Poker or simply "WSOP" is held. The owner of the casino Benny Binion was a marketing genius, coming up with an idea to have a winner-take-all poker tournament.

Those type of deals mentioned above, didn't always end up at the final table like it does today. Before the tournament started, the players voted on how the prize pool should be distributed and separated. Players resumed playing using 25% of their previous chips. 75% of the other chips were exchanged for cash at the cage.

25% usage of previous chips and 75% exchanged for cash was the standard operation procedure and prize distribution until 1977. The idea of a winner-take-all event was fabricated and the prize distribution and standing operating procedures where grounds for a legal investigation. The federal broadcasting law wasn't enforced even though such a practice like the scandal of the quiz show "Twenty One" was rigged. This law wasn't even outlawed.

Popular television network CBS was put in a rather odd position, after it drummed up its own version of the winner-take-all tournament. This tournament was in tennis, and featured tennis stars Jimmy Conners and Rod Laver in the finals. Connors and Laver would play a great final match only split the prize money. With Conners and Laver splitting the spoils, CBS was fined by the FCC and required to issue a public apology.

It was only a matter of time before the FBI investigated the under-the table deals taking place during the World Series of Poker tournament. Benny Binion spoke to the poker players and told them he would pay the top five. Splitting the prize money between players was over in 1978.

A new payout structure was introduced at the 1978 World Series of Poker tournament by Benny Binion. The top five players who participated in the main event of that year all received a payout. Binion paid the top five players in the World Series of Poker main event until 1981. He began to pay the last nine players. Paying the last nine players lasted until 1986. The number of entrants entering the World Series of Poker tournament was 141. It forced Benny Binion to expand his payout structure again.

With the field on the rise, the WSOP would set records in upcoming years in not only attendance but payouts as well. Chris Moneymaker was the first to set the new standard in winnings, in 2003. In 2004, Binion paid out 225 players. In 2005, 560 were paid, and in 2006, 873 cashed in.

Pretty hard to imagine 873 players back in the 1970's when the World Series of Poker was "winner-take-all". The World Series of Poker payout structure has grown over the years, just like the game's popularity. The World Series of Poker is broadcasted on ESPN and has garnered a huge fan base. Learn More About the World Series of Poker Payout Structure Celebrity tournaments are also played throughout the year. The World Series of Poker is a phenomenon.

Zippo Lighters and Cigars

By Dave Sabot

Where cigars are concerned, Zippo lighters are something of a controversy. Zippo, of course, is the most well-known manufacturer of fluid-filled lighters. Any fluid-filled lighter will be the subject of the same controversy as are that manufacturer's. The debate stems from the fluid itself and how it affects"or doesn't affect, depending upon who one asks"the flavor of the cigar.

Lighting a cigar with a Zippo has been a debate in the cigar aficionado community for a long time. These lighters have been around since World War 1 when they were offered to soldiers as a way of generating light without the position-betraying flare characteristic of a match. While matches may have been a liability in the trenches, many cigar smokers prefer them for lighting up in modern times, claiming that it is the best way to get a cigar burning without adding any unpleasant taste.

A butane lighter is oftentimes used by individuals who don't want the hassle of matches but who want the convenience of a Zippo without the lighter fluid. Butane lighters combust very efficiently and the fuel does not at all affect the taste of the tobacco. There are several models of these lighters available and many are refillable. The very advanced models are almost as reliable in the wind as are their fluid-filled rivals.

As is the case with everything concerning cigars, whether or not to use a Zippo is a matter of personal preference. These lighters are often heirloom items and using them is something of a ritual for some people. If one should detect an unpleasant chemical taste fouling that of their favorite cigar, the solution may be to purchase a higher-end fluid. Some fluids advertise that they give no taste to the tobacco at all and, even among very discriminating smokers, these fluids are a popular option.

Whether or not the taste of lighter fluid is something about which one should harbor concern is entirely for the smoker to decide. Being outdoors is as much about the equipment as it is about anything else and using a Zippo has something of an adventurous feel to it. These lighters long history of reliability makes them an advantageous choice for outdoor enthusiasts. The butane models, however, are very affordable and there's nothing to say that it's a bad idea to bring along more than one lighter and to see which proves superior in adverse outdoor conditions.

Breakout Fading Explained (Part I)

By Ahmad Hassam

Fading breakouts refers to trading against breakouts. When we believe that breakouts from support and resistance levels to be false and unsustainable we fade breakouts. Suppose you believe that the currency prices will not be able to follow through action in the direction of the breakout. You trade in the opposite direction of the breakout.

False breakouts are a bane for breakout traders but boon for breakout faders. False breakouts are also known as fakeouts. Fading breakouts tends to be more effective as a short term strategy. Fading breakout is not meant to be a long term strategy.

The resistance level attracts the sellers enthusiasm for shorting and it prevents the price action from advancing higher. Support level attracts the buyers enthusiasm for higher bids. It prevents the price from falling further down. Support and resistance are seen as the price floor and the price ceiling respectively.

The idea of trading breakouts appeals to many independent traders especially those new to currency trading. The crowd likes to trade the breakout. It is perfectly logical for the crowd to think that if the support level is penetrated, then the price action should move downward. The crowd is more likely to sell than to buy when the price action breaks the support level from above.

The crowd is more likely to buy than to sell when the price action breaks the resistance level from below. The opposite is true of a price break above the resistance level. The crowd usually concludes that if the resistance is broken, then the prices are more likely to advance higher in the rally.

You will find clusters of stop loss orders placed around both the support and resistance levels. These stop loss orders are placed by traders who have brought near the support level or have sold near the resistance level. Now you can also understand why there tends to be large number of entry stop orders placed just above a resistance level and also placed just below a support level.

Short positions will be stopped out when the price action breaks out above the resistance level. Similarly, when the currency prices crosses below the support level, long positions will be stopped out.

Why most breakouts fade? One of the most important reasons why most breakouts fail is due to the fact that winners need to take the money from the losers. It does not always pay to have the same mentality as the crowd. The majority will cash out of the trading game broke.

Smart money belongs to the big players who have a couple of tricks to sabotage the crowd. The crowd holds the dumb money with the weak hands. Money has to be made from the majority. Not from the minority who got it right and know how to play the games.

It causes vertical rallies or declines when the crowd scrambles to get out of their losing positions. Most money is made when the crowd turns out to be wrong. Read Part II for more on Breakout Fading.

Do You Like Model Trains? What About G Scale Model Trains?

By Ferdinand Emy

Due to the fact that model trains are a hobby that has been around for almost one hundred years, and with manufacturers placed all over the world, they have several standard and not all of them are compatible with all sorts of rail tracks. Thus, scales and other standards were created so as to know the characteristics and compatibility of model trains without having to measure each of them every time. G scale model trains are one of the most famous standards for trains there are.

G scale model trains are a type of trains that conform to a standard named G scale. They are very popular as garden trains because they are very effective for outdoor utilize.

G scale model trains are usually built with a much better resistance than indoor trains. They are specially strong enough to resist both high weather temperatures and humid and wet weather. They may even run on snow, if the snow isn't too heavy and they're equipped with a peculiar snowplow designed for them attached to the front of the locomotive.

Because they're very common as garden trains, a lot of people utilise the term G scale model trains as synonym of garden model trains. Some persons even think that the G in G scale model trains stands for Garden.

In actuality, the name has a much distinct origin. The G scale was announced to the flea market by the German brand LGB, which is an abbreviation for Lehmann Gross Bahn. The literal translation in English is Lehmann Big Train. The G in G scale Model trains stands for Gross, the German word for large.

The term G scale model trains is similarly misleading, since it does refer neither to a scale, nor to the trains. It refers to the gauge of the track.

A scale is a standard representation of dimensions of a model train in relation to the train it represents, and is measured in ratios; for example, a scale of 1:40 means that one foot on the model train represents 40 feet on the real train.

In contrast the gauge track is the inner distance between the 2 rails of a rail track.

G scale model trains are all built to adapt to a track gauge or 45 millimeters, which in the English measuring system is about 1.75 inches. Its noteworthy to notice that G scale model trains may be built in various scales.

While all this details might be boring or unengaging to a good number of people, lovers of model trains and peculiar of G scale model trains know that this info is necessary when you set up a garden layout, in order to abstain compatibility difficulties when purchasing equipment or accessories for model railroading.

Reasons To Purchase An Elliptical Machine

By Stuart Powart

If you are thinking about buying an elliptical machine, the first thing you should do is to find reviews of the machines you are looking at. You probably know that elliptical machines are better than treadmills because they are easier on your body and for this reason they have skyrocketed in popularity.

All the hard hitting of the pavement jars your body and wears it down. That is why elliptical machines have become so popular. They give you much the same workout as a treadmill will but without the damage to your legs and knees. The elliptical machines give you the same running motion and aerobic workout but your feet never leave the machine and it is all done with a gentle circular motion.

Elliptical machines come in many different price points and they have all sorts of features. Before you buy one, it is a good idea to test it and others to see what ones you like and dislike. You might go to your local health club to try the selection they have there although those machines will be expensive because they are built for maximum use. Go to different stores and health clubs to try as many different machines as you can.

There are many elliptical machines on the market and they vary in quality. If you look over some Octane elliptical reviews you will find that brand is pretty highly thought of. Octane machines are more expensive than some of the other brands but you get a machine that could last you the rest of your life. Just get on one of these machines and you will feel how solid and substantial it feels underneath you.

If you try one of the less expensive machines after trying an Octane or other expensive machine, you will immediately feel a big difference. The cheaper brands and models dont feel as sturdy underneath you and they also make more noise when you use them. When you try to decide what type of machine you want, you must keep your budget in mind and also consider how dedicated you are to exercise. If you have doubts that you are going to be able to keep working out for years, a more expensive machine might be a waste of money.
