Save the Planet...With a Wii Charge Station?

By Chad Chambers

There can be no doubt that the Nintendo Wii Gaming Console has taken the world by storm. Along with the awesome fun however, comes a dark side - BATTERIES. Those Wii remotes are great and a wonderful invention, but lets face it, you are going to burn through some batteries.

Let's Look at the Facts

Alkaline batteries are responsible for up to 20% of the household hazardous materials that make their way to local landfills. There are over 84,000 tons of alkaline batteries disposed of each year in America...no small amount.

The Danger

So, what's the big deal?

While we innocently use batteries at home with no fear of danger, lurking deep inside the household batteries are hazardous toxins and mercury that can be released into the environment once they begin to decay in a landfill.

The disposal of alkaline batteries in landfills has caused environmentalists worldwide to sit up and take notice. Efforts are underway to reduce and eventually eliminate the number of batteries that are sitting in our landfills waiting to release their poison.

What Can be Done to Help?

You just want to enjoy playing your Wii Gaming Console, you didn't want to harm the environment. So what can you do about it? Reducing the number of batteries you use is a great start. But how?

A partial solution to this problem is rechargeable batteries, and for the Wii gamer that would mean a Wii charge station. You will be able to recharge your Wii remote batteries with ease with the Wii charge station. Each rechargeable battery can be recharged up to 2000 times, replacing approximately 300 alkaline batteries.

If gamers chose to use rechargeable batteries in their Wii remote controls, the amount of poisonous materials seeping into our landfills will be dramatically reduced.

The benefits of a Wii Charge Station are not limited to the saving of our nation's landfills. A Wii charge station will be kind to your wallet as you save significant amounts of cash on the price of batteries. And, let not forget, a Wii charge station will ensure your Wii remotes are ready for action when you are.
