The Yankees Strike Back

By Dylan Groesch

After a few years of rubbing it in the faces of Yankees fans (and most of 2009), fans of the Red Sox were dealt a sharp blow last week when the team was swept in a four game showdown at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees built their lead from 2.5 games to 6.5, and the Red Sox scored very few runs in the process. In fact, they went over two games without a run before Victor Martinez hit a two-run blast.

This run had little impact on the outcome of the game. The Yankees countered with back to back HRs, and won the final game in the series by three runs.

Boston is now the loser of six straight games, and comes back home for another competitive series against the Tigers.

It seems that every year the Sox go through a swoon of some kind. More recently, they've generally recovered and gotten it back together I hope they got it out of their system.

As for this year, perhaps they can bounce back as they did in years past, but injury issues really put a question mark on the team's fate this season.

Regardless of the outcome, one thing that's certain at this point is the strength of the rivalry between the two teams. It seems that every year, Boston and New York are neck and neck and this year is no exception.

However, the Sox must forget about the whole Ortiz steroid circus, awaken their bats, and hope someone can step up in the pitching rotation. Beckett and Lester can't do it all by themselves!

When all is said and done, I still believe in the Sox. New York seems to slip a little more with each year, and there's still plenty of baseball left.
